"The Academy’s purpose is to produce well rounded, tolerant and independently minded young men and women who will mature to contribute to the future of the nation".
The Founder of Kamuzu Academy Dr. H. Kamuzu Banda opened the Academy on 21st November 1981 in order to develop young boys and girls to become “the future leaders of Malawi.” He clearly stated that “this is what the Academy is intended for.” He envisaged “a garden of learning” in “an with atmosphere of peace and contemplation” with “freedom of religion” in order to “educate the whole man.”
The Academy has now been in existence for thirty six years and now has a student body of 640 students. The last five years has seen an enormous increase in the number of applicants especially from girls and from candidates for Form 1 and the Lower Sixth to do “A” level studies.
The academic life of the school is strong with an ‘A’ level overall examination rate of over 90% for the past seventeen years. The A* - E rate for June 2014 was 96.5%, in June 2015 it rose to 97.3% , in June 2016 and June 2017 it was 100%.
All aspects of the school are flourishing and I would like to thank all the academic and pastoral staff together with the support staff for their dedication, hard work and commitment.
The Academy’s purpose is to produce well rounded, tolerant and independently minded young men and women who will mature to contribute to the future of the nation. We thank the Board of Trustees and the Board of Governors for their direction and commitment and all students should recognize the Founders vision and fulfil their potential for the benefit of the nation.
