YOUR UNIQUENESS IS YOUR SUPERPOWER

Dear All,

Today, let me start with one of my favourite quotes, often attributed to Albert Einstein:

"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing it is incapable."

In a school filled with talented young people, it is easy to compare ourselves with others. We may see classmates who excel in Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Languages, Music, or Sports and begin to wonder whether we measure up. Yet comparison is one of the quickest ways to overlook our own gifts.

The truth is that not all of us are meant to shine in the same areas. Some students find solving complex equations exciting. Others have a gift for writing, speaking, creating, leading, or performing. Some are exceptional athletes. Others are gifted listeners who know exactly how to comfort a friend who is struggling. These talents are just as valuable.

Just because we are not particularly strong in one subject does not mean we are useless or incapable. Every person has strengths that make them unique. Our differences should be celebrated and embraced, not suppressed. The world needs scientists, teachers, artists, athletes, leaders, inventors, caregivers, and people who simply know how to bring out the best in others.

At Kamuzu Academy, strive for excellence in all that you do, but remember that your worth is not determined by a single subject, test score, or talent. Discover what you are good at, work hard to develop it, and use it to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
