Push Yourself Until Everything Becomes Possible

June 9, 2026 6:42 AM Kamuzu Academy

Form 5 and Form 6 students, after several days of examinations, today marks the end of your journey. Form 4 students, you are now seven days into your examinations. Form 1 and Form 2 students, you have just begun your End-of-Year Examinations, while Form 3 students, today is your starting point.

As we all pause and reflect on the Independence Term, what do we see? Today, I want us to talk about “the mirror.”

Mirrors do much more than reflect our physical appearance. They are powerful symbols of self-awareness, truth, and growth. The mirror never lies. It simply shows us what we choose to see, and what we choose to ignore.

Many of life's greatest battles are fought in front of the mirror. The mirror is not your enemy; it is your greatest coach. If you notice a stain on your shirt while looking in a mirror, you do not wipe the mirror hoping the stain will disappear. If you see a pimple on your face, you do not smash the mirror in frustration. Instead, you deal with the real issue. The mirror simply reveals the truth.

In the same way, life constantly holds up a mirror to us. It shows us our strengths, our weaknesses, our habits, and our choices. The mirror will never applaud you, but it will challenge you. Every time you look into it, it silently asks: Are you living up to your potential? Are you becoming the person you said you would be? Are you keeping the promises you made to yourself?

The world may never ask you these questions, but the mirror always will.

And if you learn to answer them honestly, you will build a version of yourself that no critic can tear down.

Think of athletes for a moment. Before they face the crowd, they face themselves. Before the medals, the trophies, and the applause, there are early mornings, difficult training sessions, and countless moments when nobody is watching. They understand that competition is not won on the day of the event—it is won in preparation.

As you continue with your examinations and look ahead to the future, remember that your greatest competition is not the person sitting next to you. It is the person you were yesterday.

Nelson Mandela once said:

"When we look in the mirror, we should focus on our potential, not our limitations."

At Kamuzu Academy, we believe that each one of you is capable of remarkable things. Do not allow fear, doubt, or temporary setbacks to define you. Instead, use them as stepping stones toward becoming the person you are capable of being.

Look in the mirror. Face the truth. Embrace the challenge. Keep pushing.

Because when determination meets preparation, everything becomes possible.
