THE VALUE WE DON’T ALWAYS SEE

In every school community, there are people we quietly place on the outside. It may be a student who does not seem to fit in, a colleague whose voice is rarely heard, or someone we simply do not consider part of our circle. Sometimes, without saying it, we decide: “They are not one of us.”

Let us pause and flip the coin; What if I am the person who feels invisible, struggles to make friends, or quietly wonders whether I belong?

The Bible gives us a powerful image: “the stone that the builders rejected became the cornerstone” (Psalm 118:22). The very thing others dismissed became something essential.

Think of David, the youngest son, not even considered when Samuel came looking for the future king. Think of Joseph, whose own brothers saw little value in him, yet he eventually became the person who saved nations from famine. Think of Moses, who doubted his own ability, yet became one of the greatest leaders in biblical history.

The lesson for us is simple: Never be too quick to decide who matters.

In our classrooms, corridors, activities, offices and daily interactions, let us look beyond first impressions. Every person carries something valuable, an ability, an idea, a kindness, a talent, or a contribution that we may not yet see.

The person we overlook today may be the person we desperately need tomorrow.

Let us make Kamuzu Academy a community where people do not have to fit in before they are valued.
