When It Is Time to Go Home

When It Is Time to Go Home

June 24, 2026 9:51 AM Kamuzu Academy

Tracing back to our roots, many of our parents grew up singing a popular traditional song by Nedi Mapira:

"Kwathu mkutali, kosawonekela, Kwathu mkutali, kosawonekela, Dzuwa ndi mwezi siziwoneka...Kaphiri kakwathu, kakuonekela, Kaphiri kakwathu, kakuonekela, Uko kuseli kwa mapiri..."

Nedi Mapira was one of Malawi's celebrated traditional musicians whose songs captured the beauty of storytelling, culture, and everyday life. For many families, this song was more than just music—it was a reminder of home. It often brought a feeling that no matter where life takes us, there comes a time when we must return home.

As we reach the end of another academic term, many of you are probably feeling exactly that. The thought on everyone's mind is simple: it is time to go home.

But as you prepare to leave the beautiful grounds of Kamuzu Academy behind for a few weeks, I would like you to pause and reflect on an important question: How have you planned to spend your holiday?

A holiday is not merely a break from school; it is an opportunity to grow in different ways. Rest is important, but so is responsibility. Be useful at home. Offer help without being asked. Spend quality time with your family. Read a good book. Learn a new skill. Exercise regularly. Use technology wisely. Most importantly, continue to uphold the values that Kamuzu Academy has instilled in you.

When you return home, let your parents and guardians notice a difference. Let them see the transformation that has taken place during your time at Kamuzu Academy. Let them see a young person who is more disciplined, respectful, responsible, thoughtful, and mature than before. Respect your parents, guardians, and elders. Take initiative in helping with household responsibilities, Be mindful of the company you keep and make wise choices when no one is watching.

As we prepare for departure, please remember that before we leave, we have an important commitment:

Parents–Tutor Consultations: Thursday, 25 June 2026 strictly from 12:10 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

All students should ensure that their parents or guardians attend if possible.

If your parent or guardian will not be able to attend in person, please book a virtual consultation slot with your tutor. These consultations will take place on:

Please make your booking as soon as possible.

Special Notice for Form 2, Class 202

Please note that today's Physical Education lesson will begin from Lesson 3 (9:00 a.m.).

As you walk around campus today and tomorrow, take a moment to appreciate the scenery, the classrooms, the playing fields, the trees, the friendships, and the memories you have created this term. Kamuzu Academy is more than a school; it is a place that shapes character, builds lifelong friendships, and prepares young people for leadership and service.

Soon, many of you will leave these grounds for home. When you do, carry with you not only your luggage but also the lessons, values, and experiences you have gained here.

Rest well. Stay safe. Make good choices. Be grateful for your families. Return refreshed, ready for new challenges and greater achievements.

And remember: no matter how far you travel, Kamuzu Academy will always be a place you can proudly call your second home.

Have a wonderful holiday.
